Today, the vast majority of individuals with serious mental health disorders, as well as thousands of other persons with more common behavioral problems, live and receive their services in the community. The hospital-based and freestanding non-profit mental health care providers that comprise the membership of the New Jersey Association of Mental Health Agencies, Inc. (NJAMHA) are the roots of this community-based system. Providing mental health and addiction services to children and adults, regardless of their ability to pay, NJAMHA’s members are key to the mental well being of the citizens of New Jersey. For more than five decades, NJAMHA has fostered the growth and vitality of this system. Through advocacy, education, training, mutual support, development of key partnerships and a variety of services, NJAMHA assists agencies committed to improving the availability and quality of mental health services throughout the state.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots organization for people with mental illness and their families. Founded in 1979, NAMI has affiliates in every state and in more than 1,100 local communities across the country.
NAMI is dedicated to the eradication of mental illnesses and to the improvement of the quality of life for persons of all ages who are affected by mental illnesses.
